Broke, Fat, Lazy, and Stupid
Daily Meditation #107–6/9/2022
“Nobody ever wrote down a plan to be broke, fat, lazy, or stupid. Those things are what happen when you don’t have a plan.”
Larry Winget
Larry had it correct, and you, I and most everyone else is stuck in the “no plan” maelstrom.
We are expected to have a plan at work — budgets, scheduling, and responsibilities — and it’s why so many businesses are so successful.
So why, then, when we’re living our lives do we embrace the idea of having no plan?
We don’t plan how many calories we’re going to eat, so we just make a frozen pizza (again) after having McDonald’s for lunch at work…because we didn’t plan and pack a lunch.
We don’t plan our sleep hygiene, so we stay up as late as possible.
Since we didn’t plan our meals or sleep, the next day we are sluggish and irritable.
Since we’re sluggish and irritable from planning failures, we underperform at work and our boss gets after us.
Because we’ve failed to plan, even a little, now we get home frazzled and take it out on our spouse and children…
You don’t need to plan every minute of your life, and you certainly can’t expect every plan you make to work perfectly.
But you need to plan better in the realms of Eudaimonia -
To eat a bit better and move more.
To grow good relationships with people important to you.
To be financially prudent.
And to be spiritually mindful.
Plan a little, or accept sub-mediocrity.
