You’re Dumber Than Most Children
Daily Meditation 709–2/5/2024
We live in a true technocracy these days.
For the “uninitiated,” this essentially means a “ruling over by experts.” And this feels true, doesn’t it?
As a kid, I remember we held respect for principals, teachers, doctors, lawyers, et cetera, but there felt like there was some sort of wiggle room around their expertise, as well.
I won’t drift into the realm of politics, but I invite you to think back to the 80s, the 90s, and the early 00s and the sorts of individuals our leaders entertained and heeded advice from, relative to now where we seem to only ever hear from prestigious institutions and lauded PhDs. That’s all. Just think back, open mindedly.
Now, over our lifetimes, many many of us strive for specialization.
In every type of job, there’s various specialists. Oncologists for cancer, bariatricians for fat people, marine electricians for waterworks, banker masons for stonework, and even me, a Realtor, I specialize in long-distance buyers (and am the best in my area at it!).
Over our lifetimes — decades doing something, perhaps — we eventually become “authorities” in our respective fields. It’s a good thing to strive for, frankly.
