YOU Happen to People
Daily Meditation 1,163–5/16/2025
I’m not certain this has ever occurred to you, but here it is:
You happen to people.
A story.
Years ago I worked with a guy named Brett. He was a really nice guy. The sort of odd-duck who usually dressed up when he didn’t have to, brought flowers on first dates, wrote poetry. Brett was a hard worker too in tech support and knew the ins and outs of probably every piece of hardware.
The guy had awful luck with women. Or, perhaps, his taste and standards weren’t great.
It felt like every other week we was having a date with someone new and then being dumped by them or them moving on.
Well, he started seeing a woman. I warned him against it — everyone did. She was already dating a guy and had been for years…and Brett said she constantly was telling him that her boyfriend was a “weak cuck” but needed to stay with him (apparently…)
He and her had a few “fun” adult nights together, Brett ever trying to convince her to dump her BF and to date him. Privately, he was telling his close coworkers he was “falling for her.” But, in fairness, he seemed to “fall” more than dead timber in tornado season.
