You Are Not Your Khakis

You are straight.
You are gay.
A Republican.
Democrat.
Libertarian.
Christian.
Muslim.
Pastafarian.

These are ideologies. No more than objects of the soul.

While they are facets in the immaculate gem that makes up who you are, be wary to make these ideologies into you. Avoid the trap of cultlike, ideological possession.

There will always be a politician seeking to tether you in puppet strings — their ideologies.

There will always be social movements of oppressed individuals who want you to emblazon your clothing and vehicles and social media in their colors or symbols — little more than idolatry — and their ideologies.

There will forever be victims among us clutching at our ankles, begging us beneath heavy, guilt-crushing words to take up their causes under the guises of justice…

Ideologies.

You are far more than any one belief.
You are not a marionette.
Not a cultist.

Quit acting like one.
