Daily Meditation 861 — 7/9/2024

Today, my phone actually gave me a weird but wonderful notification:

“Quote of the Day: It doesn’t matter how slow you are, just don’t stop.” (or something like this)

Firstly, I’ve never in my life had it give me lovely, daily quotes, so this really was disorienting (especially when you’ve just gotten up an hour ago).

But secondly, what a behemoth of a sentiment to hold dear.

In my mind, the first thing I thought of was stop signs vs yield signs. Obviously, you stop at a stop — you’re supposed to fully and completely halt! But with a yield, you use your judgment and can slow as much as you like before continuing.

Certainly if you hit a yield in the middle of 4 county 40s of miles and miles of corn and see not a soul coming, you can safely just tap the brakes and keep ‘er truckin’! But, in town you use more judgement and may get nearer to fully stopping.

In our lives, we often have moments where we’ve been “hammering down” for long periods. Maybe months in the gym. Months of pounding the pavement getting sales. Months of writing every damned day.

As a full disclosure, this is precisely why the quote struck me today — lately, I’ve been feeling less inspired to write. Thinking deeply on things and writing thoughtful…
