Daily Meditation 1,039–1/8/2025

You come in the kitchen. You’ve been making pancakes together. Now there’s this mess…

A short Meditation today.

So many of us tend towards seriousness. And, let’s be honest — that’s fine! Life is serious bidness, generally.

Taking care of our children.
Maintaining our job.
Working in our church and community.
Also maintaining our marriage.
Also also our health…

And as I very frequently mention, the death bed is where we will spend most of our life in reflection.

We will remember our children as little ones on Christmas, graduating, bringing home their first “All A” report card, or carrying the cat around in the worst way possible (while the cat patiently tolerates it).

We will somewhat remember our job, maybe a good boss or a few coworkers.

We will certainly remember our community, where we loved to volunteer or help, or the church where we may’ve spent many years.

And of course, our marriage! We will fondly remember when we met them — so handsome or so gorgeous. The wedding, the ups, the downs, the trips together.

But here’s the thread you’ll find on your death bed tying them all together:

It won’t be seriousness. It will be laughter.

In closing — relax a little bit. The spilled juice, the clogged toilet, the stained shirt…they will all be either forgotten as moments of anger or you can laugh through them and perhaps one day even remember them as ironically happy moments.

Relax.
