Will You Retire?

What is your retirement plan?
Your long-term investment strategy?
Your nest egg?

If you’re young, you may be nervously avoiding the answer.

You think you’ve got time.

Maybe you do.
…Maybe you don’t.

If you don’t have the aptitude and don’t want to take the time to understand investing, get an advisor or start a 401k and be diligent to add to it.
Then work until you’re 55, 60, 65 or older.

Or, you’re going to have to take the time, now, to learn “enough to be dangerous.” Being a renaissance man or woman is important, and investing is part of that.

Either make a passive decision or active decision, but regardless, sacrificing in the now is the only way you’ll retire.

I’m not so wooly a Stoic, Eudaimonic, or “philosopher” as to try to insist that finances aren’t important. That money is just “a figment, a construct of society at large.” Money is a construct of value transmission, sure, but it does matter.
Your future matters.
Your quality of life matters.

Insisting to yourself that money and finances are unimportant is lying to yourself because you — in the now — are incompetent with finances.

Money may not be more important than your spouse or child.
Money may not be more important than your spirituality.
Money may not be more important than your health.

But when you don’t have enough of it, it’s hard give your whole attention to your spouse and children.
To focus to pray or meditate in truly pure spirit.
To afford healthy food.

So, take the time, now, put the money aside, now, and ensure you can rest your bones one day.
