Daily Meditation 749–3/17/2024

Will one workout TODAY make you ripped tomorrow? No. But one workout 5 days a week might make you ripped by next year.

One of the keyest of key phrases in the upcoming YouDaimonia book is one we’ve discussed in these Daily Meditations probably over a dozen times:

Act in a manner consistent with the person you aspire to become.

Put another way:

Act in a manner (today) consistent with the person you aspire to become (tomorrow).

And, Dr. Jordan Peterson has a tangentially related expression — “You’re not everything you could be and you know it.”

I think that’s (in part) why some people don’t care for self-help in general, but people like Peterson, Robbins, or Goggins in specific…
They are right and you feel put on the spot!

We tend to think that self-growth happens on a 45° angle, metaphorically. You read a great book every week, you get up at 3am every day, go to the gym for 2 hours 6 days a week, only eat organics, and listen to audiobooks all day long. And while doing that every damned day, you’ve been flung from a trebuchet of self-improvement…next stop: enlightenment!

But it’s not really like that, at all.
