Weddings and Rain

It was a beautiful (and funny) wedding. Note the strangers in the lighthouse! :D

Today I married the love of my life.

We drove some 90+ minutes to a location we hand picked.

My father officiated for us and my mother came.

No one was invited — to us, a wedding is a ritual. A ceremony between a man and woman who deeply love one another and are committed to a life of mutual, meaningful sacrifice, moving (together) in a direction towards a greater good.

Not a big, expensive, showy party.

But everyone celebrates in their own way! A party just wasn’t for us, personally.

All week, we tabbed open our weather app to check the weather for Peninsula Point, Michigan.

Last week it showed rain for today.
“Maybe it will clear up. The rain was a ‘miss’ all summer,” I said.

The days inched nearer.
Rain.
Rain.
Less chance of rain.
Yep…rain.
Maybe rain?

As the day neared, we laughed and knew we would get married in a deluge, a sprinkle, a torrent, or sheets. It didn’t matter — the wedding was a show of love.

And so, today, under the rain, Andrea and I said “I do” filled with laughs.
My mother forgot the rings in the car.
Other people were visiting the scenic sight, navigating around our umbrellas and stuff.
Our vows, ironically, ended up having multiple similarities.
The umbrella didn’t want to cooperate with the wind.

And we laughed through all the hiccups and dysfunctions.

Because that is life.

Life isn’t generally ordrly. It doesn’t usually cooperate with your plans and intentions.

So, you “cross bridges” when you get to them. You are flexible. You roll with the punches.

And you just laugh through it and enjoy it all.

Being overly expectant and wanting for perfection in plans can leave you angry and disappointed.

Be flexible. Laugh.

Even if it pours all over you on your wedding day, it will still be beautiful. In fact…
It will be all the more wonderful.
