Ever notice how vampires always have great teeth? Do you think that, when there are “new” vampires who maybe have “British” teeth, they go to a vampire orthodontist? Or?

There’s a familiar expression to us all:
You can’t make everyone happy.

And it’s true, isn’t it? To be frank, when we endeavor to make everyone happy, too, we end up usually pissing more off than if we would’ve focused on one group or another.

This isn’t to say that you should go out of your way to rub some other group the wrong way, intentionally, but rather sometimes it’s best to do your best to appeal to those you know.

Look at the workplace:

I spent over 10 years in various leadership roles, right up to being an Asst Store Manager of the biggest Walmart in our region.

In one role, I was in charge of scheduling a call center. We operated 24/7/365 (yes, even Christmas!), offering tech support right up to the most advanced levels of technical needs — engineers to engineers. While on one side you had your “deck” of employees where they each had their own hard skills (“I can manage lines A, B, & C, but not D, E, or M” for example), but also had strengths and weaknesses within those skills.

On the other side, we had to ensure phones were answered in a timely manner, customer service remained high regardless of stress, solutions were provided quickly (and competently!), and the company we were hired by were also satisfied……
