The Ultimate Waste of Time

Sit down with a pencil and paper.
Draw a circle.
Go back, fix the lines to improve it.
Further improve it.
Work it until it is perfect.
Perfection is a tremendous waste of time and mutilates your perception into a state where anything less than “perfect” is only imperfect…
And all things exist on a spectrum.
The twist?
Nothing can ever be perfect.
Perfect is the 11 out of 10 you will never achieve and it is a frivolous pursuit to chase it.
If you spend 100 hours on a self portrait on a 4x6 canvas is it perfect? No?
How about “excellent?” Perhaps.
Now, if you spend 900 more hours on it, will it be ten times better?
No! It will not!
Strive for excellence, scorn perfection — excellence is achievable through mastery, but perfection is a lead anchor.
