A short DM for today!

The long days are not to be dreaded or hated. No, they are there to make you better appreciate the good times that happen on the “short” days.

In a room where the floors, ceilings, and all the walls are pure, blinding, white light, there are no shadows and thus, no contrast.

It is only the shadows behind an object that adds contrast and makes us to appreciate the richness, the color, the details.

So too are our long or tough days.

When you go out the door at 5am and don’t get home until 7pm for burying cable, or plumbing a store, or working OT at the mill, you’re tired and aching and your feet stink (and are blistered), but when you lay down, the cool sheets of your bed envelope you and it’s all behind you in moments as you fall asleep.

All our worst or longest days are as such — soon just dust in the wind, there to remind us how damned good those shorter, better, lovelier days are!
