The Cedar, the Stone
Daily Meditation 907–8/24/2024
Work brought me to a far end of the UP of Michigan, this morning. Knowing the appointment was relatively short, I asked the wife if she wanted to join me, we leave a few hours earlier and go see a waterfall in that area.
“Absolutely, yes!” was the resounding reply (and really — who doesn’t like waterfalls?)
So, we made the drive to Bond Falls and boy, was it worthwhile.
About 100m wide and 50m “deep,” Bond Falls really are the quintessential “minds-eye” image of beautiful, natural waterfalls. Wide, yawning falls roaring over steppes of perfectly smoothed stones.
As you follow the trails winding along the banks, you find yourself ensconced in nature, abounding. Although, to be fair, in the UP that’s pretty much 99% of the time. Flowers, animals, trees all for your eyes, ears, and soul to gulp down.
Well, near the top of the falls was a great cedar tree which had grown in such a way that it had split a large rock right in two.
This isn’t unheard of in nature, but when you see it, it certainly fills you with awe as you consider the force of continuous growth…
