Daily Meditation 909–8/27/2024

(Yesterday’s DM was one of the metamorphoses of the self. A comparison of a caterpillar-to-chrysalis-to-butterfly’s journey and how we can reflect upon that. As mentioned, today’s is very different — only similar in the subject)

As a few recent Daily Meditations have alluded to, my wife and I visited the splendid Mackinac Island last week. The drive across our always pristine UP was gorgeous in the early morning light.

It was a very cool morning — perhaps 48ish when we woke up around 4 and hit the road an hour later. Steam and dew adorned cars, everywhere, and fog lay thick “as jellied brains” (comment if you get that reference) over river, streams, and fields. Jane Austen would’ve approved of the beauteous nature.

As we neared the Mackinac Bridge, we pulled over to the Cut River Crossing to do a bit ‘o sightseeing and to stretch our legs. And stretch them we did — there were some 300 stairs down the gulley to Lake Michigan!

We got to the sandy beach, snapping pictures of the waters and listening to the soft babbling of the inlet where the river met one of the largest lakes in the world.

“Something’s moving out there,” my wife said. Sure enough, at the far edge of the inlet, perhaps 20' out, there was some small object.
