“Team Player”

Daily Meditation 766–4/3/2024

Our era is one of the “team player” mindset. And why not? After all, humans are primarily tribal beings. Our ancestors’ ancestors would’ve never defeated and eat-ed the massive, powerful mammoths without a sense of “team-ism,” group belonging, and a willingness to sacrifice. All of those brave spear-throwing dudes we call our Great²⁵ Grandfathers must’ve known that every single hunt had a very good chance it’d be their last…yet they went because they knew their little tribe needed it.

We aren’t here, today, to discuss “the greater good,” which you may feel we were steering towards! No, instead it’s another discussion of Narcissism and genuinism.

Firstly, we are all Narcissists. It’s a spectrum, like many other elements of our lives.

We are all feminine (or masculine) on a spectrum.
We are all tactile or vague.
We are all “autistic” in various ways in a spectrum.
Some of us are great thinkers (with our minds) and others great tinkers (with our hands).

And none of these are inherently better or worse. With Narcissism, the risk is that someone is a high-scoring one. One that will be good enough at “acting” that you are convinced by them — their virtuousness, their skills, or their charm…
