Daily Meditation 961–10/20/2024

Today’s message is an…unorthodox one.

Sadly, suicide is everpresent in our lives. For some of us, we do experience it — friends, family, loved ones opt to take their lives by noose or gun or ledges. Many of us never fully recover from such selfish acts and carry the burden of their choices for the rest of our lives with questions such as “If only I’d’ve known,” or “It’s my fault — I should’ve done more.”

But, today’s DM is a message for the giga-depressed among us who are toying with the idea of a hot bath and a cold razorblade:

Why such a hurry?

You’re going to die someday, anyway.

Maybe tomorrow, even, you’ll be schmucked by an unaware texter driving their Suburban 10mph over the speed limit. No pain — you hit your head and POOF it’s over.

Maybe next year you’ll be diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. In your final months, the doctors put you on an experimental medicine — you’re certainly going to kick the bucket from the cancer, but you can “give back” by playing guinea pig with this medication.

Perhaps in just a few months, you’ll be feeling especially depressed and considering it, still. You’ll rise to sit down to try to enjoy your favorite meal — extra cheese pizza from…
