Daily Meditation 620 – 11/7/2023

Success, for many (most?) of us, is very…
Black and white.

You asked the “love of your life” out and they promptly shot you down.

You approached your boss and asked for a raise and were summarily rejected.

You keep going to the gym but your weight is only lazily drifting downwards, a pound or two a month.

Things like this we often would frame as failures.

But, really, are they?
Or are we misperceiving our world?

If we simply adjust our perception, we can very rapidly redefine failure out of our lives.

Put simply, we cannot fail.

The date rejection?
Ask them. What went wrong? Why not me? Get their insights, their advice. Sure, maybe they just laugh at you, but there’s success to be found.

The raise rejection?
Same — ask your boss for specific details. Where can you improve? What can you do differently? Who does it better and why? One of my favorite expressions as a leader, years ago, was “What good looks like,” so ask them “What does ‘good’ look like, here?”

The gym?
You’re going to the gym, so you’re already ahead of 99% of people. But are you…
