Daily Meditation 995–11/25/2024
The Christmas season is upon us!
For many of us in the West, this means bountiful blessings.
Lots of food — cookies, pies, turkey or ham, stuffing, casseroles…
Lots of giving — books, clothes, games, maybe more food and treats…
And of course, time as well — we travel and call to be with loved ones!
This meditation isn’t one of gratitude (incredible, I know), although this is essential in our season of bounty.
No, it’s one of calming down.
For some of us, we feel the urge to splurge. Black Friday offers so many good deals, we may sense, but we should look at that which we already have. Look at it all and ask “Okay, I have much. Is this something — this game or trinket — a doodad I will use often?”
I like the 90 day rule of minimalism, although I don’t use it as often as I ought. It goes something like this:
Say you have a knickknack. If you have used it in the last 90 days, you keep it.
If you have not used it, you should donate it or toss it.
While this is a bit extreme for some things (sweaters where I live with 4 seasons, for example, go hundreds of days with zero use, then suddenly get a hundred or so…
