Slow, go slow
Daily Meditation 933–9/20/2024
So often it feels as if we “just” wake up one day and realize we became obese, or have advanced too far in our job and now are incompetent, or moved too rapidly with our SO.
Here’s the thing about change: it needs to go slow, otherwise it probably will be a disaster.
You didn’t “just” wake up one day, once a slender 125 pounds out of high school and “all of a sudden” end up being 235 pounds. No, that happened like this:
You grabbed the convenient donut at the gas station as you were running late. Then, (since you were late) you didn’t pack a lunch and ordered McDonald’s or went out with coworkers. Then, then, you opted to sit on your phone on your breaks instead of walking a few laps around the building. Then, then, then you got home tired and opted to make a microwave meal for “dinner,” followed by a few fruity vodka seltzers or beers. To top it off, around 9 — shortly before bed — pop pop pop went a bag of popcorn to eat, too.
It wasn’t just waking up one day a decade later to being obese.
It was the day listed above — a collection of dozens of small but poor decisions — done over and over again.
It was change done the “right” way — slowly. But not a change in the direct you desire.
