Daily Meditation 651–12/9/2023

Mmmmmm…donuts…

The world is chock full of instant gratifications.

Amazon can get us clean underwear same-day, sometimes. We’ve got Walmart usually right around the corner. You can order groceries online and pick ’em up within the hour. Taco Bell can have your burritos hot and ready within a couple minutes. Hell, with porn all but “on demand” and free online, even “sex” is practically instant.

I would argue despite all of the “convenience” (if you can call them that), above, that it hasn’t done us much good as a society. Now, yes — the positive offshoot is that convenience such as this has freed up a good deal of time and of capital which has helped to lift many in poverty around the world up to the next level. Poverty is lower than ever, and globalization of food, supply chains, etc has done the lion’s share of this.

But, really — we’ve forgotten how to hunt. How to garden. How to cook. In the case of porn, many young men have forgotten how to flirt or “get out there,” choosing the instant orgasm of pornography instead of the possibly searing embarrassment of a giggling “no” from a girl.

But these Daily Meditations aren’t “about” making you feel badly about yourself, your country, your choices or the world. It’s not a political “black pill,” as anyone can bitch and complain about…
