Short and Long I — Strategy

We’ll do today’s meditation in two parts, today and tomorrow.
People often use “tactics” and “strategy” interchangeably. And, generally, that’s probably okay.
But, getting a bit more into the weeds, here’s the functional difference:
Tactics are generally short-term and encapsulated within the longer term, which is strategy.
Additionally, strategy is more “esoteric” and “vision-esque” whereas tactics are more actionable.
In the words of the wonderful and wise Stephen Covey (author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”), one ought to “begin with the end in mind.”
In terms of strategery, as George Bush Jr called it, many of us tend to partially erroneously formulate our long-term visions, or strategy, simply as goals.
“I want to get back to my sexy, slender high-school weight of 125 pounds,” a 225 pound woman in her late 30s may say. This is, of course, very admirable and we should encourage all good health maneuvers.
Now, getting into the nitty-gritty diet and fitness is for tomorrow…
But, looking at the “lose 100 pounds” as a strategy — obviously long-term — one can see that’s not very “visionary” in nature. Ergo, it’s not…
