“Self-help”
Daily Meditation #341–1/31/2023
Apologies for formatting shortcomings — I write this via phone on the road.
Many shy away from the inaptly named “self-help” genre of books.
And why not?
Very few people willingly admit they are helpless or in need of help.
And the few of us who do read them often feel “unworthy” or inattentive as we work through the dozens (or hundreds) of great insights poured out onto the pages. At least I do.
It’s hard to get through an entire book — tens of thousands of lines — and remember maybe 3 or 4 key phrases or takeaways.
But that is all that matters!
You don’t purchase a mine believing every inch of every tunnel will be sparkling with gold nuggets, diamonds and emeralds…
…you get the mine hoping for just a few!
And this is the same with any poorly genre’d “self-help" book — if you wall away with even one piece of great insight, just a single tip that changes the way you percieve the world or how you operate making your life better, then that’s all that matters.
And that takes a lot of pressure off you!
So grab the improvement book and a pen, work through and underline, knowing you only need one good morsel!
