Mascots, Hatred
Daily Meditation 980–11/8/2024
When someone literally hates us — for opinions, life choices, lifestyle, clothing, religion — for most of us it feels painful, even if we don’t know the person!
Why is that? Isn’t that a bit silly?
If you’re a Libertarian and a Republican is mocking you for some of your beliefs, why do you care? Try to reason, but if they won’t be civil, shake their hand and move on.
If you’re a gay person and someone mumbles “faggot” near you in line, why do you care? Smile at them and wish them well.
If you’re a Christian and some atheist heckles you about your “sky daddy,” why do you care? Pray for them.
We’re gonna encounter a hell of a lot of outright “assholes” in our lives. A lot.
But here’s the secret: the bigger an asshole someone is, the less we should register their words or opinions.
In fact, we should almost wear it as a badge of pride.
They’re such big fans of us that they took time out of their busy day to obsess a little bit over us!
Not many strangers give us more than a glance, so when they bother taking a minute or two to comment or think about us, laugh and absorb.
