Go along with it

Here’s a simple premise, particularly in our relationships.

There’s an idea that we should “Go along to get along.” While that’s not really a saying, per say, and it is helpful in relationships of the highest order such as marriages, more generally speaking, this “go along with it” attitude is probably a long trip towards a form of slavery.

“The boss wants us to make this data into a 50 slide PowerPoint.”
“…That will put people to sleep. It’s such an outdated format.”
“Just go with it, do what she wants, I guess.”

“My roommate wants me to start washing all the dishes, even his. I technically am paying $20 less a month than he is…”
“IDK, I guess just go along with it to keep the peace.”

“A parishioner keeps coming into the church office with new things to add to our monthly editorial we mail out.”
“How many things have they brought in??”
“So far this month, like…IDK, 7 or 8 paragraphs of stuff. It added two whole pages.”
“I guess go along with it so we can all get along, here.”

This is the downside to making concessions or “going along” with things and not saying no.
