Daily Meditation 1,024–12/24/2024

I’ve been writing about winter and Christmas a lot this week, but needed a break, apparently, on Christmas Eve! So, here’s a more “generic” meditation.
But — Merry Christmas to you and your kin!

We will all always fail. It will happen just about always inevitably happen in nearly every pursuit we ever have.

What matters is that we do our best to fail in the “right direction.”

You tried to quit smoking…But then lit back up.
Well — then smoke half as much as you did last time.

You attempted to get back in the gym…Then suddenly stopped.
Okay — go tomorrow for 5 minutes. Then 6 the next day. Then 7…and so on. Rebuild the habit.

You were writing a novel…And then you got gravely ill, but have recovered.
No biggie — reread what you wrote, doing 100 words today, now. Then 110. Then 120.

If you must fail, then do so correctly.

And understand — there are some things where you truly cannot fail.

Marriage fidelity. Sobriety. Showing up for work when you’ve got family counting on you…

But with most habits and choices, just try to “fail directionally correct” and then learn from it!
