Excuses
Daily Meditation — 4/8/2022
You will either have results or a story about why you couldn’t…
This is a gentle way of saying you’ll either accomplish what you’ve set out to do or you will make excuses with incredible, colorful stories (lies) as to why you didn’t.
You wanted to lose weight.
You got a gym membership.
Started following a good diet.
Slept well.
Counted calories to keep a small deficit…
It was hard…
And then your dog died.
Now you’re eating poorly.
Not going to the gym.
And so on.
Your mind and body don’t want to do these hard things, so when they’re presented opportunities like tragedies, they leverage them, manipulating you into stopping doing those hard things…
But the hardest things are worth the most.
What stories are you telling yourself?
Follow for daily philosophical meditations.
These are distillations from my coming book “YouDaimonia: the Ancient Philosophy of Human Flourishing.”
