Daily Meditation 1,005–12/5/2024

Although the title, today, is a great song (with a HIM cover which is almost even better than the OG), we ain’t talking bout B.O.C. or classic rock. Today’s article really ought to be the 29th Death Meditation, but we aren’t necessarily meditating on it.

No — too many of us are, apparently, afraid of death. Is it the finality? The “beyond?” Certainly, it varies one soul to the next, but a majority of us are in terror, consciously or not.

I don’t know the “why,” but here’s how I think about it each day.

Not long ago, I overheard someone angrily having a fit over sickness. They were upset about someone hacking their lungs out in a line at Walmart.

“Why can’t they have sent a son or daughter to shop for them!”
“Why aren’t they seeing a doctor instead!”
“Why couldn’t they be wearing a mask?!”
“How can they be so inconsiderate? What if they get me sick and I die?”

Well — humorously enough, the hacking individual had taken a drink of water and it “went down the wrong pipe,” as they say. No one was really in any “danger.”

And, perhaps this is the “stoic” in me — that’s just LIFE, even if you did get sick.
