Daily Meditation #401–4/2/2023

At least they are wrecked somewhere very beautiful?

When things are bad, I mean really bad, many of us turn to things like prayer.

Our spouse is divorcing us and taking the kids.
We just got fired at the start of an economic downturn.
Our furnace decided to go caput and now we just had a bad car accident.

Even those among us who are nonbelievers might even turn to praying for assistance, just wanting to be helped out of this pit of despair.

Yet, when things are good, even just regular day to day “good,” we forget that contrast.

In retrospect, I personally am so glad for my divorce some 6 or 7 years ago, now. I went through a period of true hell, serious alcoholism, and a coming to terms with the fact I had been acting on my Narcissism for over a decade.

When I became sober, began constant introspection, and started writing and focusing on the now and the self, there — like magic! — came my now fiancée who is an incredible, hilarious, intelligent, and downright gorgeous human being and a hell of a woman, a real pillar and rock in my life!

The darkness makes the light all the more brilliant.

So, don’t let yourself fall into the trap of ingratitude for the “day to day doldrums.” Those are good days too.

Be grateful, always, as all days have the potential to be absolute abysses.

When things are bad, be grateful they aren’t worse.
When things are good, be grateful they are good as well as not bad!
