Contrast

Daily Meditation #382–3/13/2023

If it weren’t for white, we could never appreciate black. And if it weren’t for black…

Without contrast, we don’t really know how good (or bad) we have it.

Just as I woke up at 1am yesterday, puking myself inside out from food poisoning, after an early bedtime and tons of Gatorade, today I woke up feeling incredibly virile and healthy as I typically do!

It’s when we’re in a job, being paid, after a long stretch of layoff that we realize how good it is to be working.

It’s when we’re back at home with our friends, pets, and family that we realize how good “home life” is after a vacation.

It’s when we’re sweaty, guzzling water after some cardio that we realize how great we can feel after too long out of shape.

Contrast is how we know how great life is.

How would we appreciate the colorful nature outside if we didn’t have the jet of night?

How could we appreciate the warmth of summer if we didn’t have the bonepiercing chill of winter?

While so many of us complain endlessly about that which we dislike, sometimes it is powerful to remember the flipside of it — the contrast.
