Daily Meditation 763–3/31/2024

(As has been stated a number of times in the YouDaimonia Daily Meditations, they are for all, so generally are not overtly “religious.” There are a handful of exceptions among the DMs — this is one. I still invite anyone and everyone to read and enjoy! :slight_smile:)

There is a man at my church who is there every Sunday in the pew just in front of my wife and I. Though he sits on the other end of that next-pew-up, I love him very much.

He is at least 80, but could be even 90. As long as I have known him, he attends church by himself and has no wedding ring on his finger (perhaps “no longer”).

It could be easy for us — of younger ages, 20, 30, 40 or so — to place ourselves into a person of advanced age such as this and think how bitter we would be…

“I am so old,” we may think, “everything hurts now. I wake up for the first time in my life sorer than when I laid down. My spouse died over a decade ago — I don’t know how to cook nor clean very well…so I’ve had to manage with making myself boxes of Mac & Cheese and microwave meals. I miss them…I miss their cooking for me and making our bed the way they did. Now, I try, but it’s wrinkled…”

We could carry on, “And I lost my eldest son, too. My other children and their grandchildren live all over the world. I never…
