Blind or Deaf?
Daily Meditation 1,001–12/1/2024
In yesterday’s monumental 1,000th Daily Meditation, we (again) talk about perceptions shifting.
As we age and grow, we should always be working to control our perception. A “final form” is the re-perception of other people’s views and beliefs we don’t understand — seeking to “get” them. They were raised in a different culture, with one parent or none, were molested or beaten, were raised in the church or out of the church, in a city or the country…etc.
A good exercise in perception growth is what I call “blind or deaf.”
Would you rather be blind? Or deaf? Why?
Then you imagine one day with this alternative perception.
A blind person will never drive. You’ll feel the rumbling of the car beneath you. Your walking to every place will be slow and sure, perhaps assisted. You’ll sense every stone underfoot, gravel grinding, the sticky blacktop or scorching cement. Imagine how much you will appreciate a soft dog or cat in your lap — will you smell them, now, too, since you’re not scrolling or watching TV while you pet them? Imagine listening to an orchestra in person! The swell of an organ or brass vibrating within your very bones.
Imagine the love of your life. You will never know — or care — if they are pretty nor handsome. You can feel their face and compare it…
