How we look when we think we’re better than someone for some silly reason

Many among us get these little superiority complexes over others. Maybe our spouse is “hotter.” Perhaps we’re in better shape. We’ve got more money and a sweet car. We’re smart as a whip with our 2x PhDs. Maybe we’re a prominent local figure.

Why do you feel like this over other people?

Here’s the rub:

Maybe you really, in fact, are better than person X or person Y. I am unsure how we objectively can measure that, sure, but maybe you really are.

But — even so, in many metrics, THEY are better than you. In other metrics, other people are better than you, too. And some other people, yet, are even better than them…making them an additional standard deviation better than you!

You may have $100,000,000 in your bank, a yacht, hundreds of acres, and a gorgeous 10/10 spouse (and possible side-spouse?) and look down upon those less fortunate, yet many of those people you would be utterly helpless without. After all — you surely cannot run wiring, handle plumbing, lay tile, or clean or landscape, can you? Without those people — who are much better at those things than you! — your wealth loses considerable equity. And…
