Beneath the Surface

Daily Meditation 484–6/24/2023

What lurks under the surface of your consciousness? What monsters, submerged and ignored, are pulling at the rudders of your life?

We allow the monsters in our lives to haunt us.

Our dark past. Bad decisions, molestation, struggling through addictions, the years of a spouse cheating, the loss of our child.

They float in our minds in the jets of night as we try to sleep.

The monsters loom just under the surface of our consciousness in the infinite deeps of our subconscious, casting unidentifiable and irrational fear into our minds, manifesting as anxiety, passive aggression, and addictions.

Some of the monsters we perseverate on every day, letting them rule over us in their fiefdoms of our minds.

But what is past is past.

We must meditate deeply on these monsters — the violence, the deaths, the addictions, the other abject horrors we’ve experienced.

It is in the leaping into the deep, going beneath the surface to face our leviathans that we can free ourselves, taking off their great scales to form our armor and weapons for us to use in future days.

Yes — embrace the monsters of your past. Perhaps even be grateful for them in some respect. Who you are, who you become is in many ways the hammer and tongs upon your molten soul being pounded upon an anvil of existence.

It won’t get any easier.

Embrace the monster of your past. Search it out. Meditate upon it. Face it. Then over the years work to rise above it and to make it work for you.

Life is not easy and it is full of malefic abominations. It might take years.
But you can absolutely do it. And you must try.
