We know the phrase is cliched. Old. A well, well beaten dead horse.

But with a reframe and some self-awareness (with positive intent), let’s make it less so.

We want to be ourselves in a manner that will attract those who mean well for us.

We shouldn’t “be ourselves” as a Narcissist or Sociopath or Machiavellian. Really, as any of the Dark Tetrad…
We aren’t wanting to manipulate anyone into liking us under any circumstances. I am convinced this is why many relationships fail — people (over)present elements of themselves or lie to garner love or attention. Just look at social media — overpresentation of positive lights in our lives makes it look like we are rainbows, unicorns, and baby bunnies when we may be dying inside.

We aren’t really being ourselves.

But, to be our “pure” selves (perhaps lightly moderated) so that only the best people make it through our filter and into our orbit.
