Daily Meditation 912–8/30/2024

Artificial “Intelligence” is an amazing tool. I only choose to put “intelligence” in quotes as that is what it is — it isn’t actually intelligent, but merely appears so due to the characteristics. It’s sorta like Jar Jar in Star Wars Episode I; “I spek!” to which Qui-Gon hilariously replies “The ability to speak does not make you intelligent…”

Forgive my Star Wars reference.

But AI is just a tool.

Yet many use it moreso as a crutch.

We have all met/heard of some student in high school, or sadly even in university using ChatGPT to write everything for them.

Without drifting into the realms of economics or politics, it’s abundantly clear that eventually this will lead to a “competence crises.”

The Meditation today is not one lambasting AI. No, it certainly has a place in our lives.

Rather, today it is about doing the thing yourself!

AI is useful for arts, philosophies, and other brain-intensive activities — all of which require exercise just like muscles do.

Failure to practice your crafts — writing, as I do here — only leads to atrophy. And this atrophy only leads to further reliance on the AI crutch!
