“A Journey of…”
Daily Meditation 529–8/8/2023
“A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.”
Although this expression has become corny and relegated to a mere platitude, it’s a good one to remember our journey of Eudaimonia.
The average person takes around 2,000 to 2,500 steps with just a single mile.
That means that the 1,000 mile journey is, in fact, 2,000,000+ steps!
Wowzers.
That is a lot of tiny, individual steps making up that 1,000 miles!
And that is the exact same for everything else worth doing.
Weight loss.
Wealth accumulation.
Relationships.
Spiritual improvement.
If you want to lose 80 pounds to get back to your “high school weight,” it won’t “just happen” in the blink of an eye…it doesn’t just dump off with a single gym session.
Your fitness routine is a set of specific exercises at specific weights performed 1000s of times in a specific, safe, correct form way.
Your diet is small, positive choices made with intention 1000s of times.
All growth is made up of years.
Those years are made of days.
Those days made of hours.
The hours of minutes.
And those minutes are hundreds of tiny “nows” all strung together where you are offered the right or the wrong decision for you to make.
And you KNOW right from wrong. That is free will.
So, that 1,000 miles isn’t trekked in a perfectly straight line.
It’s not done in one shot.
It isn’t even non-stop forward — there’s backwards and sideways and stopped too.
It’s the 2,000,000+ individual steps — those tiny, intentional, right choices — that make it up.
Yes — a journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step…
But, then you must make the right steps 1,999,999 more times.
