a grain of salt
Daily Meditation 1,078–2/17/2025
We get a lot of criticism in our lives.
Our bosses and coworkers are generally the major sources;
“You always let the tickets for this category escalate so I end up with them when you know full well how to handle them…”
“You showing up at the 9:09am mark every day is a risky move, and you know it.”
But our parents and spouses (and friends and children) can also be contributors as well.
“I think you sell yourself short a lot. You know you can do more.”
“Why do you always yell at daddy?”
Here’s the rub:
We so often ignore criticism we receive. All of it.
We’re quite bad about reattributing it to people just “being haters.” I’ve written about that frequently in the past, so I’ll spare you, but yeah — they’re probably “just haters.” (except if it’s your wife. Your wife is always right! *wink wink nudge nudge say no more*)
But maybe the “take it with a grain of salt” applies, here.
Though coworkers and bosses, at the worst, may be “adversarial” in nature, do you think there’s a possibility they’re “just” 10% or 20% correct in their criticisms of you? Certainly at the least, you can sit with them heart to heart…
