6 Years Sober — Sobriety
Daily Meditation 1,029–12/29/2024
I had nearly forgotten about it, but 2 days ago marked 6 whole years of sobriety for ol’ Lucas Davidson.
I’ve gone 2,191 days (well, 2,193 now) with a drink. Or, 52,600+ hours if you prefer.
Just those 6 years ago, I was a very serious drinker.
If I had to work at 9am? Well, I’d get up at 5am to have a quick three fingers of bourbon so I’d be sobered up for the start of shift.
As soon as I’d get home, the first thing I’d do is pour three fingers. Rye, bourbon, scotch — if it was brown and strong, I enjoyed drinking it…And lots of it. Most days I would finish at least a full 750ml bottle.
If I had a day off? That 5am would start with coffee instead, but by 7 that new bottle’d be open and it’d be gone shortly after supper. A full liter wasn’t unheard of.
And no one really knew. I let very few people into my life and was otherwise totally functional…
Here’s the meditation for y’all this day:
We all have addictions.
Alcohol.
Porno.
Sex.
TV.
Chocolate.
Carbs.
Gaming.
Drugs.
Weed.
Smoking…
