Daily Meditation 991–11/21/2024
Recently, my wife and I had a very long trip back home from a faraway appointment. It was getting late, we were feeling peckish — so we stopped at one of our favorite guilty pleasure establishments…
IHOP.
Our waitress took a bit to seat us. She was pregnant, the kitchen looked short a cook, and she was the only hostess. I don’t mind. Reframe: “waiting” in line isn’t waiting. It’s an opportunity to practice mindfulness and gratitude.
We get seated, order water, and begin perusing our menus.
5 minutes pass.
Then 10.
Soon, it’s nearly 15 minutes since the very pregnant waitress seated us.
Finally, she returns.
We order some chicken strips (for protein), my wife orders some crepes, and I order a full stack — 4 cakes — of the November “POTM” Pancake of the Month, the Maple Bacon Pancake. It is a pancake with bacon bits baked into the cakes, a strip of bacon on top, and a drizzle of maple sauce.
I was impressed as she took the order from memory — no pad or pen. A rare talent.
Fortunately for our remaining bit of drive and stomachs the food was brought in about 5 minutes.
